Snug stun at Gem Bar debut

Naarm/Melbourne indie folk-rock outfit Snug have arrived onto the scene.

Playing to a full room, the band performed their first ever set at the Gem Bar in Collingwood. Supported by local folktronic duo Ashfelt, Snug’s chemistry and energy was like no other live debut - brilliant, passionate, funny and captivating.

Opening the Saturday afternoon show was the mesmerising Ashfelt - a blend of electronic and indie sounds, the two musicians blended deep harmonies with rich textures, both through guitar and synth tracks, along with drum loops.

A tight execution of a one-of-a-kind sound, one can only wonder what they have in store in terms of recorded work down the road.

Filling up the intimate band room of The Gem is not easily done at a debut, but the cosy space was packed with eager ears and smiling faces by the time Snug commenced their act.

Featuring an immensely talented group of young people, the band was tight yet gentle, punchy yet intimate. Spatial synth and guitar lines contrasted with soft and funky rhythms.

Key tracks Bitch and Hunger made for highlights, with lead singer Annalise Rose’s delicate vocals sailing over the magical instrumentals - especially during Clairo cover Sexy To Someone. Short but sweet, the set was like a warm hug from an old friend.

Overall absolutely an act to watch - a uniquely skilled band, with a sound that is headed to the stratosphere.
