Return of the Manchild - The new Dole LP is here

This is Dole Manchild. They are from Naarm/Melbourne, and they are releasing a new album entitled Return of The Manchild.

@dolemanchild RETURN OF THE MANCHILD (or how I learned to stop worrying and love the Dole)

The sound of Dole Manchild is rough & tumble garage rock with sprinklings of big beat and splotches of grungy alt-rock. They’re a gruff, tuff and loud bunch of rock ’n’ rollers who make the floor of any venue they play ten-percent stickier with each beer spilt in the mosh that’s always bound to occur at their gigs.

You like the sound of that, don’t ya? Of course you do (you sick fuck). Well, in that case, let’s give a listen to this album and hear what the band has in store for us.

Track one; The Mutants of Coober Pedy builds up to an explosive shout, then enter pounding drums, grimy bass and Jack White-like fuzzed-out guitar. Electronically distorted vocals intone overhead in a way that reminds me of the dream broadcast sequences from John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness.

I Invented The Surf Beat is what you’d expect from the title, full of braggadocio and sneering smackdown lyrics. Tinkling saloon piano runs across a barrage of clattering fuzz-punk.

Do the Housing Market Romp is a commentary on the state of living delivered with an electronic stomp. Kinda sounds like Lunatic Calm mixed with TAD.

The next track is Little Song. It is a little song. 1:14 to be precise. I like this one because it’s short and it has a good groove to it. Cool little guitar solo at the end.

Comme Des Fuckdown is a slow roller, featuring reverberated guitar, percussive stomps and echoey vocals. Air Europa is like The Prodigy, with pulsating techno backing and punky vocals. There’s a trumpet thrown on for some extra flavour.

Seventh track Olympia is an electro-fucked ballad with a sound that’s like a grey cloud raining down on a concrete footpath.

Muscular is like the doom rap sound of Jakimo Jones, with frantic vocals, sizzling guitar and thudding drums, set against an electronic backbeat.

The album closes with What’s The Price? It’s a thrasher, a basher, a smasher etc. Loud, frenetic and energetic. The synth break midway through sounds like a Commodore 64 game. I like that.

So if you wanna hear some loud shit, go and listen to this album. But if that’s not enough for you, Dole Manchild will be launching this album with a live show this Friday at The Leadbeater Hotel in Richmond, with support by Gardiner and Zero. Get ya tickets here.
