There’s something wrong there - Otto stuns at Melbourne Fringe
In a twisted, odd remix of Sophocles’ Oedipus, Otto is a tale of jealousy, sexuality, gender and control. A darkly hilarious romp. Otto is not a play for the faint of heart and is not to be missed.
Written by Hannah Hartnett, Otto takes elements of the classic Greek tragedy and uses them to tell a modern tale of depravity. Featuring a talented cast, including standout the performances from Thomas O’Brien as Otto and Shay Niranjan as Flynt, the story follows the titular social outcast as he plots to reveal his father’s adultery to his mother - a story which upends expectations of those familiar with the classic.
With an outstanding score and live accompaniment from violinist Ezra Demchy and fantastic costume and prop design from Harper Carroll, Lucy Raymond, Claire Garwoli - and amazing stage management from Alice Raymond - Otto is a small scale production success.
Playing for the week of October 13-19, Otto is an odd one. Make sure to grab tickets here.
