The Antics are a force to be reckoned with on self titled debut EP

The Antics have arrived, and with their debut extended play. Releasing Friday the 18th, they are a force to be reckoned with. Check out the EP here.

Since their inaugural performance at the Fitzroy Pinnacle in May, Naarm/Melbourne’s The Antics have been steadily making a name for themselves in the city’s roaring punk music scene, having played with the likes of Billiam, Cutters and Arse.

With a hard and fast, energetic pub/punk rock sound, they are a live act that will stir up the wildest of mosh pits.

That energy continues through to their debut studio recordings. Opening with Tony, the band immediately makes their presence felt.

Barrelling drums, gritty bass, thrashing guitars and frenetic yet on-point vocals all coalesce to bring forth a sonic attack of razor-sharp shrapnel aimed straight at your face.

“Chow down on this.”

Track two, 18 Berry, continues the energy. Wiry guitar riffs and sardonic lyrics with an alternating slow-fast tempo; it’ll knock you back and forth. “The eternal thread: nineteen seventy-eight.”

Third track and lead single Masked never lets up. There is an inherent bouncing energy to the tune, a punk thrasher that makes one want to pogo and slam into everything in sight. A perfect statement of sound for their first single.

Follow up Stuck comes zooming through like a wayward taxicab on a hyper freeway; dodging, swerving, slamming and accelerating, but manages to keep the wheels on the ground before speeding off down the road.

A grungy vibe permeates on Safer with chugging, squelching guitar and forthright lyrics creating ample menace and understated anger.

Closing out with Anthem, an ode to our glorious, gloomy-yet-vibrant, grey-yet-shining city, The Antics keep the volume up on 11, the energy at boiling point and the kick-ass spirit of rock & roll within their hearts, and with this debut, they’ll surely hold a place in yours (aww).

If you’re in the need for some hard-cut, no-bullshit, mad energy punk rock, keep your eyes and ears out for The Antics and be sure to listen to their EP here.

The Antics will be launching their self-titled EP at Nighthawks on the 18th of October and will be supported by Silicone Prairie and Dilemmas, followed afterwards by DJs from Rack Off Records. Check out the event here.
